STYLE DOSSIER // LAURA MCLAWS HELMS

Untitled
GARDEN PARTY

Another New York summer morning. A rather balmy morning indeed. A morning that I had expectantly thought would provide tepid relief from otherwise sweltering summer days. Not this morning. For this morning brought no such luck. This morning, the air was thick and humid causing my skin to prickle and evoke sweat from my brow. In spite of the threat of blazing heat of the coming afternoon, the sun, on this summer morning lent a rather soft and ethereal light over McCarren Park. A light that could not have been more dreamy.

“I should shoot in the mornings more”, I quietly think to myself as Laura poses in front a small, seemingly newly planted tree. The sun, the glorious sun that lent a rather soft and ethereal light over McCarren Park, now casts a halo of light upon Laura’s blonde hair. It was almost surreal, as though she were apart of a fairy-tale. Her dress, one of blue floral damask and cream lace, poised against a backdrop of small bushes adorned with tiny pink blossoms created perfect synergy that seemed to perpetuate this moment of whimsy.

Helms, a fashion and cultural historian has her very own vintage archive jammed packed with pieces from almost every era. Curious, I almost dared to take a peek of what was sure to be a vintage wonderland of sublime 40-80s era dresses galore. I wandered not, ultimately deciding to oblige Laser’s (Laura’s beautiful blonde kitty) lavish affections.  Each time Laura stepped out from Narnia her closet, my heart skipped a beat. I knew that I could do this all day, only in a perfect world far unlike the one we live in today. Reality quickly reared her ugly head, reminding me that Laura has important things to do with the rest of her day such as meeting clients and curating vintage collections. I, on the other hand, am buzzing with glee knowing that all I have to do for the rest of this now blazing summer afternoon, is to review all of the beautiful shots I captured on such a perfect morning.
